i can see clearly now

December 28, 2006

We pulled the trigger on a new tv. It’s really about time, and the new one weighs in at about 20% of the old one. For now we’ll be using the bigness for DVDs and generally watching standard broadcast TV. Switching from DirecTV and TiVo is a hard choice, and if the rumors are true, they’re getting back together and making a DirecTV-compatable HD TiVo by Q3 2007.

on being a wife

December 27, 2006

Bryan thinks it’s making me more domestic. I think it means that we registered for all this cool shit, actually got it, and can really start putting our house together. For example, we now have sheets for the bed in the guest room that are younger than me. Wow. I’ve been cooking too, but this is more a factor of being home a bit more (three days off in a row). My laundry madness continues unabated. I enjoy it, I just wish our fantastic washer and dryer weren’t languishing in the garage.

Things today were from outside the house. I was watching a friend’s cat, Dr. Peepers, so I checked in on him one more time today, then had my oil changed and changed my windshield wipers. After last night’s dark and wet drive to Fremont, I decided that new wiper blades were really in order. I’m sure the world isn’t that smeary looking when I have good wiper blades on the car. Next will be new tires. It’s very exciting, but I don’t think it’s necessary until the road trip to Seattle comes up in June. If I even get to drive.

Time to see what the hubby wants for dinner. Haha. I think it’s Christmas leftovers, despite me still not being that hungry after last night’s huge dinner.

blog slack

December 26, 2006

It seems like all I do is apologize for not blogging. Really, I’ll stop saying “sorry” and just start doing more. The holiday season in retail should really not be mixed with the wedding season. I’m just saying.

This is not going to be a rant about work, or even mild complaining. Just a quick note to say that I’m thankful for all the people in my life and that it’s been a hard holiday season, but I’m still plowing along.

A special note here in memory of my friend and former co-worker, Vinny DiStefano, who took his own life on December 14. We shared a desk and a department for two years and he made work more fun and interesting than most people out there. Even if I did a lot of his work for him. =) Vinny, you’ll be missed.

This was the first picture I ever took with my camera (the original image is called IMG_0001) and it still makes me smile. Cheers Vinny, wherever you are.

through dan’s lens

December 12, 2006

Check out a selection of photos from Dan’s cameras which will explain more about the day. There are a few of the rehearsal, a few “behind the scenes,” and the rest from the reception. The only advantage to being sick is that I can work on stuff like this.

almost like being there

December 10, 2006

Except not really. However, if you weren’t there, or you missed part of the festivities, you can see a few photos here in the gallery. More pics will come soon once Bryan and I figure out which ones we like.

you’re a what?

November 27, 2006

Today Bryan and I went down to the Santa Clara Clerk-Recorder’s Office to get our marriage license. It was an easy process, whereupon the nice lady there gave Bryan and I a pamphlet on fun stuff like domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, genetic birth defects, etc. We were at the second window and to our left there was a young-ish couple also getting their marriage license and setting up a civil ceremony. On the marriage license application, they ask you to write down your occupation. The guy next to us wrote “street pharmacist” on his application. Seriously. The woman at his window couldn’t believe it. (Which is why I heard it, since she read it out loud to him to confirm it.)

Now this guy had a blue tear drop tattoo and was definitely not the most clean-cut of characters, but really? On a county application? On permanant record with the county that you’re a “street pharmacist?” Sweet jebus. He says, “Fine. Put “street drugs” on that.” What? WHAT?

one more snap before we go

November 27, 2006

Bryan and I were in Las Vegas for Thanksgiving. The day afterwards, we went out to Red Rocks. Here’s our traditional self-portrait to join our collection.

Haven’t been blogging, but real life, work, and wedding planning have been a bit on my mind.

is this thing on?

November 16, 2006

Where have I been? Blogging has taken the back seat over the last week or so to more pressing issues like being drunk beyond belief. I’ve been trying to sort through photos. Partly because I want to put up a gallery from my bachlorette party and partly because I want to know how the evening went. As Shalon said, it’s like the blind leading the blind drunk.

I want to thank my girls, all of them, for taking me out and about (Sunnyvale?!) and making sure I had an excellent time (so I heard).

Other than that, my exciting news includes me being my store’s Anderson Award winner. I’ll have to find a blurb on our intraweb that says what it means, but in a nutshell, it means that people in my store think I embody the spirit of our business and what we do. It’s a great honor, and I was both awestruck and hungover when it was presented to me.

thanks (and get out)
